In some ways, usage of such pattern analysis in predicting the future seems to be dangerously close to the oft derogated realm of 'astrology'. Have they also not been finding co-relation between the position of planets and events that could unfold in the future? Before u can get up to say "data mining is more about mining of relevant data", be sure u have checked the hemlines......headline were made several months ago, between their length and economic prosperity of the nation/world.....may be it is time to checkout positions of Saturn/Jupiter...and their kind? If it is all about patterns and one gets wiser after a rationale is 'made apparent'....may be this business of astrology can possibly improve with such modern data-mining techniques? Co-relation between seemingly diverse events seems to be a subject on the horizon?
