I suppose gathering data will become the main goal. Looking at what google do with all their products, they pull data from many sources and I guess they can make personal user profiles, it is scary.

It is the dawn of a new age. Where data mining, ERM and ERP are king.

My combined hard drive storage is 5 TB on my main computer, and every month I need more than 100 GBs more to store the new data our projects create..This will be a real challenge in the next decades. Storing, managing and indexing all that data..

You win my prize for sensible use of a visual display of data. Thank you for breaking up that chart, into digestible pieces. And then explaining each part. It is a use case that avoids "infographic abuse". I am not being facetious.

Re all that archived data: I hope we can find what we need, when we need it! But until we determine a criteria for what should be saved or not, we'll continue to store it. We are fortunate. Data storage technology has kept up, meeting our needs, for now.

Chuck has been with EMC for 17 years, most of them great.

He enjoys speaking to customer and industry audiences about a variety of technology topics, and -- of course -- enjoys blogging.

He lives in Holliston, MA with his wife, three kids and four dogs when he's not travelling. In his spare time, Chuck is working on his second career as an aging rock musician.

Warning: do not buy him a drink when there is a piano nearby.

  • Frequency of Updates
I try and write something new 1-2 times per week; less if I'm travelling, more if I'm in the office. Hopefully you'll find the frequency about right!

I'm going to be approving comments before they get posted here. Any information you can share about who you are, how to contact you, what you do for a living, etc. would very much be appreciated.
