Remarkable leadership & recovery! At under $2/share ten years ago, there was nothing to do but take the loss or hang in there! Glad I still had at least fingers on the ledge! Now is the time to take advantage of the merger and do some house cleaning; recruit and build a young sales and management team that will be collaboratively and flexibly innovative and able to grow with this new 'cross-pollination'! Well done.

I would argue that HP is competing quite happily in that space - it was a rationale to the IBRIX aquisition. The slides you reference above are very similar to ones we created a couple of years ago. We are making substantial wins in CME, Gene Sequencing and Geophysics. Welcome to the party.

Given that BlueArc has been at the table for pretty much every Isilon deal in the last 2 years, I'd say Isilon isn't alone in their market. Do they scale well? Definitely. Is it "Isilon and then everyone else"? Nope. Bluearc scales to 16PB, Isilon to 10.4PB. Less FUD, more facts.

Chuck has been with EMC for 17 years, most of them great.

He enjoys speaking to customer and industry audiences about a variety of technology topics, and -- of course -- enjoys blogging.

He lives in Holliston, MA with his wife, three kids and four dogs when he's not travelling. In his spare time, Chuck is working on his second career as an aging rock musician.

Warning: do not buy him a drink when there is a piano nearby.
