If you ever have a chance to meet him in person, you should. He's one of those very unique individuals in our industry.
When Pat describes his view of EMC, he tends to use the phrase "a technology person's technology company". When people at EMC describe their view of Pat, we tend to use the phrase "a technologist's technologist". Nice synergy, no?
I'd go a bit further, since I've seen him in action for a while. In a room of very experienced people, he can easily be the most experienced one there. In a room of very smart people, ditto. And in the company of passionate, visionary people, he can do the same.
That's a very powerful combination, if you think about it.I was fortunate to come across this short, informal video of Pat made right after the VCE announcement last year. If you're curious, it offers a nice view into his unique personality and style.
Personally, I think we're very, very fortunate to have him here leading us.

Having a limo service in North Coast Oregon, I was called upon to transport someone from Cannon Beach to our regional airport in Astoria Oregon. Not being a Total Tech Geek, the name Pat Gelsinger meant nothing to me. The Pat that I met was sincere, gentle and straightforward. He gamely got in my Truck as flooding forbade the use of the limo that day on Highway 101. t-shirt and sweat-pants were his attire. At the worst part of the flooding, we had to travel through about 10 inches of water.I looked over at Pat and said; you should probably pray! Well we made it and made it on time to the airport.
Looking back and having now researched Pat, I realize that for all his genius, and tech savvy, he was just a man like you and I. ( of course If I had known who he was-I would have given him my own theory of an Organic Storage system) I was blown away to learn later that I had a pioneer and far-reaching thinker in my vehicle. It was an absolute pleasure to realize that he was the Real Deal/ Smart beyond belief and yet approachable. An easy teacher of his fellow man.
Thank you
