I enjoyed seeing you talk at EMC World and I agree with you 100%, the general feeling of optimism seems to be overtaking the industry now.

IF in fact that is true, then things are going to be very good at EMC. EMC has done exactly what should be done during a downturn, taking market share, winning over customers, preserving employment for our best, innovating and having the engineers learn and develop new products.

If in fact the economy is back, then my friends, it's time to kick butt and take names. I don't care what that troll Mr McDonald has to say about emc...

Things are about to get pretty good over here, again..

What's wrong with a little respect? Why calling names like troll? Why the personal invective? What purpose does it serve in the discussion on the topics Chuck is putting forward...?

Alex McDonald

@Chuck

The recovery appears to be a little delayed here in the UK, and the experts (the IMF, Standard & Poor) are concerned that this might be a false dawn; a "dead cat bounce" so beloved of finiancial analysts. If you're seeing positive signs, here's hoping it spreads, and soon.

@Mr LaRose, Mr McDonald here.

What is certainly true is that your list of goodness you claim EMC have done -- taking market share, winning over customers, preserving employment for our best, innovating and having the engineers learn and develop new products -- is a way of life at NetApp, downturn or no downturn.

So what did EMC do before the downturn? None of the above? Taking names and kicking butt after this seems like a poor strategy for EMC to me, but I'm sure cooler heads will prevail.

    Chuck has been with EMC for 13 years, most of them pretty good.

    He enjoys speaking to customer and industry audiences about a variety of technology topics, and -- of course -- enjoys blogging.

    Warning: do not buy him a drink when there is a piano nearby.
