Thought I was done with posts for today, but I came across this really interesting piece from Forrester Research: The State Of Data Security In North America.
Or, if you're busy today, the press release has a nice summary of the conclusions.
Yes, EMC (actually, RSA) sponsored it, but -- vendor biases aside -- I found it pretty interesting on a couple of levels ...
First, people are taking this stuff seriously ...
I was amazed in the pickup in interest in this topic from just a few short years ago. More companies are investing in this area, in more ways, for more reasons, than ever before.
Since many of them hold my personal information, I have to think this is a good thing. I think you'd feel the same.
Second, the second-order discussions are clearly evidenced.
As an example, the discussion has evolved from encryption to getting proficient in key management.
Or maybe they had a classification policy at one time, but what they need is information governance as it's changing pretty rapidly.
A natural evolution, but it's happening faster than I would have initially thought.
Third, it looks like the whole topic of information governance is inevitable.
If information is going to become more important than money, you're gonna need governance and oversight just the way you do for financial matters in your company.
Are you an informationist?
