I agree that they have a lot in common and think that a robust integration between VMs and grid computing as abstractions is on the horizon (we've been working a lot with this idea @ Globus).

common Japanese words

I don't know that much about grid systems, but I have seen the benefits of virtual systems. Great comparison.
